Hot Foil Printing

This is a commercial printing process and is the application of metallic or pigmented foil on to a solid surface by application of a heated die onto foil, making it permanently adhere to the surface below leaving the design of the die. Hot foil printing is a manual process. In order to print the logo in the precise position, the setup process usually takes 30-45 minutes, therefore a minimum order is usually required. We are, however, more than happy to produce a printed sample at a small charge of £6 plus VAT plus the printing plate cost.

Hot foil printing is a relatively economical way of producing an eye-catching effect that really increases the luxury factory of a product. It is ideal for small, large and repeat orders. Turnaround time is usually 1-2 weeks and 3-4 week from September – December. Hot foil printing has its limitations too. Although a wide range of colours are available, pantone colour is not possible with hot foil printing. Hot foil printing method is recommended for 1-2 colour printing only.

For 2 colour foil printing, cost is usually higher as the packaging will go through the printing machine twice. For multi-colour printing, we would recommend digital ink printing instead. Very fine detail and large area of foil may be difficult to print, especially on texture product, like fabric or textured paper.

Artwork Requirements

Vector file, this can be AI, PDF, EPS or SVG. We cannot accept JPEG, PNG, PSD or GIF format. A vector image is a computer-made image that is made up of points, lines, and curves that are based upon mathematical equations, rather than designated number of pixels. This means that no matter how large or small or how close you zoom in on the image, the lines, curves, and points remain smooth. There will never be jagged lines or blurriness with this kind of image, no matter how much it is enlarged. Also, colours are separated into specific shape areas, which makes changing colours within these images as easy as the click of a button. If you don’t have your artwork in vector file, we are more than happy to retrace your artwork for you at a small charge, cost starts from £18. Please get in touch if you would like to receive a quote.
