Ways Small Businesses Can Save Money and Help the Environment
With the news of a looming recession and the need for individuals and businesses to prepare for tough times by cutting costs, Packaging World is here to help small businesses. We've put together some ideas and tips on how to cut your costs whilst being as kind to the environment as possible and reducing your environmental footprint. If you're already a Packaging World customer, you'll know how committed our team is to reducing our environmental impact, so suggesting ways that our customers can help to save the planet and money was a winning topic for us.Read on for our tips. Switch off electrical devices when not in use – this might seem obvious but switching things off entirely rather than leaving them on standby makes a big difference. Many small businesses leave computer monitors, printers, and other electrical devices turned on or on standby instead of switching them off completely; this impacts both the planet and their bills. Put lights on a timer – leaving lights on in the office or other workspace when nobody is using them is a waste of money and natural resources. Put lights on a motion sensor or timer to ensure they switch off when not in use. Promote public transport or car sharing – businesses should promote public transport or car sharing to and from the place of business. This will help everyone save money on fuel and transport costs and reduce overall emissions when commuting to and from work. Have employees work from home – the chances are, your business had employees working from home during the height of the pandemic, so you know it's possible. By allowing employees the opportunity to work from home all or some of the time on an ongoing basis, you'll help them cut travel costs and emissions. Introduce a cycle-to-work scheme – we love our cycle-to-work scheme here at Packaging World, and we have two members of staff who regularly cycle to work using it. Better for the environment, our employee's bank balances, health, and wellbeing! Order stock in bulk quantities – this will save on multiple shipping costs, reduce fuel consumption from multiple deliveries and use less packaging to send small or loose items. Ensure sea shipments are full – this ensures you're making the most of the available space and don't need to order multiple times. Air freights use 31 times more emissions than sea freights, so ensuring a sea freight is complete is the best way to reduce the number of emissions your business uses. Please contact our team today if you have questions about any of the items in our wide range. Give us a call on 01792 473 785 or fill in our online contact form today, and a team member will be in touch as soon as possible.

The Importance of Branding to Small Businesses
Most people know the importance of branding; everyone knows the famous Coca-Cola red shade, the ‘every little helps’ slogan of Tesco, and the white tick of Nike. However, many people often overlook how important branding is for small businesses. Branding is vital for any business that wants to build and grow a culture and make its brand more recognisable over time.We can help small (and large!) businesses showcase their brand with our two printing options – hot foil printing and digital printing. We’re excited to reveal that we’re launching a new section of our website dedicated to these two printing techniques soon. In the meantime, let’s look at both and their features. Hot Foil Printing Hot foil printing is a commercial process involving applying metallic or pigmented foil onto a surface using a heated die (stamp) and foil. Hot foil printing is available with a single or two-colour finish, and it’s an economical way of producing an eye-catching effect that gives a luxury feel to packaging and, therefore, the brand.Although a wide range of colours is available, Pantone colour matching is not possible with hot foil printing, and it’s also not suitable for logos or images with complex or minute details.Hot foil printing is a manual process, so a minimum order is usually required. So you can ensure the printing is suitable for your business, before placing a complete order, we can produce a printed sample at a small charge of £6 plus VAT, plus the printing plate cost. Digital Printing We use the latest digital printing technology at Packaging World, and digital ink printing allows us to spray the ink onto ready-made packaging. Digital ink printing enables us to personalise packaging in Pantone, CMYK and multi-colour printing with no minimum order quantity.Digital printing is perfect for multi-colour artwork, printing logos, and high-resolution images. It can also print more detailed and complex graphics with ease and with high-quality results. Christmas Packaging It might still be summer, but it won’t be long before thoughts turn to Christmas! At Packaging World, the run-up to Christmas is undoubtedly our busiest time of year, so we always recommend our customers get their printing orders in as early as possible to make sure there's no last minute panic! Summer Sale If you’re still clinging to summer and are not ready to think about Christmas, check out the items in our summer sale. We have some fantastic deals on the current stock, so grab them before they’re gone!If you have any questions about our hot foil or digital printing options, our team will be happy to help. Plastic Free July
What is Plastic Free July?   Plastic Free July is a global movement where people are encouraged to be part of the solution to plastic pollution. The way to participate? Refuse single-use plastics for the whole month.   This movement aims to reduce our environmental impact and carbon footprint so that we can have a cleaner planet with clearer waters, air, and streets. It’s hoped that by joining the challenge for one month, people will see that they can reduce their use of single-use plastic with better organisation, clever swaps, and simple changes, and hopefully commit to doing these things long-term.   By joining the challenge, you’ll commit to reducing single-use plastic waste at home, work, and when you are out and about throughout the month. Every individual who chooses to participate in Plastic Free July will only make a small change, but collectively it will make a massive difference throughout the UK and worldwide.   So, What Can I Do?   If you’re not sure how to start cutting down on single-use plastics, here are some ideas:   Take a reusable cup when ordering takeaway coffee at a cafe or drive-through Look for fruit and vegetables that aren’t wrapped in plastic when doing your shopping, and don’t bag them in plastic bags yourself. You can purchase reusable mesh fruit and veg bags or even just put the items directly into your shopping trolley Take reusable shopping bags with you. If you forget yours, the stores often have leftover boxes you can use Don’t buy water when you are out and about; instead, take a reusable bottle you can refill Avoid buying food wrapped in single-use plastics, and visit a refillable store for cereals, grains, pasta, seeds, nuts and much more Swap disposable razors for reusable products Try using bar hand and body soap, and bar shampoo and conditioner rather than liquid soaps, shampoos and conditioners that come in plastic bottles   Our Commitment   As a company, we’re pledging to participate in Plastic Free July. Our employees will be saying no to single-use plastics as much as possible throughout July and hopefully beyond. Whilst single-use plastics can make life easier, it’s far more worthwhile to put in the effort to reduce and eliminate our use of them wherever we can for the good of the planet and the world around us.   At Packaging World, we’re committed to doing our bit to reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment. That’s why we are pushing toward eliminating plastic from our products as soon as possible. In addition, we use as much paper and card fromForest Stewardship Council® certified forests as we can and are transitioning as many of our existing products over with no change in quality for our customers.   If you want to learn more about our eco-friendly range of packaging products and how we’re making changes to become more sustainable, our team will be happy to chat with you. Give us a call on 01792 473 785 or fill in our online contact form, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Green Dates for Your Calendar
Last Friday was the very important Earth Day in which communities around the world celebrate the Earth's natural spaces and bring to light important issues that need addressing in order to protect the natural beauties of our home planet.    Following this, we want to keep the momentum going in support of everything Earth Day aims to highlight. If we want to keep improving, we need to be conscious of the impact we are having on our environment every day of the year, and so we've compiled a list of dates coming up in the next month for you to keep an eye on which will hopefully inspire you to start making small changes that can have a positive impact on our planet.     No Mow May For the entirety of the month of May, people around the country will be leaving their lawns to grow freely without interruption, encouraging wildflowers to grow for the pollinators that will be arriving this spring. This is the easiest thing for anyone to do as it essentially means doing nothing at all. Your lawn may look a bit unwieldy by the end, but we ask that you look the other way just for one month in favour of protecting the little pollinators whose vital work goes overlooked so often.   Walk to School Week (May 16-20) For just one week in May, parents and children will be encouraged to walk to school (if possible), in order to cut down on traffic emissions, noise pollution from all the cars driving around, and of course to promote healthier habits for young people. With summer just around the corner, hopefully the weather will be nice and warm when the date rolls around, giving you no excuse not to make the most of the sunshine and walk to school! Of course, this may be difficult for people who live further away than others, but consider dropping your kids off with their friends who live nearby and let them walk the rest of the way together. Hopefully, if things go well and the kids enjoy themselves, this can continue beyond the one week in May and become a regular occurrence. Even if you only decide to walk one day a week, that can make a significant cut to the emissions we produce on a daily basis.    World Bee Day (May 20) It shouldn't come as a shock to anyone by now just how important bees are to the world's environment, being one of the major contributors to the sustainability and security of food produce, and pollinating the flowers that allow us all to breathe. Protecting our little fuzzy friends is of the utmost importance as, without them, things would be much harder for all of us.  Bees have been subject to major misunderstanding for so long, but it's crucial that we now realise that they are here to protect us rather than harm us. Bees will not sting unless they feel threatened, as they can only sting once before dying, so they won't use it unless they feel they need to. Knowing this, you should feel safe allowing bees to do their jobs and live freely alongside us, rather than being scared of them.     World Turtle Day (May 23)  We're probably all aware of the dangers plastic waste poses to sea creatures such as turtles, as these materials can take hundreds of years to decompose and often wind up in the homes of these wild animals, with many finding themselves stuck in the sleeves of multi-pack cans, and plastic bags. Many businesses have been reducing their plastic usage in recent years, and we're proud to say we have been doing exactly the same. Our aim is to eventually phase out every use of plastic in our products and only use recyclable materials. Recently we have been transitioning our Poppy boxes to FSC® certified paper to go alongside our other FSC® ranges such as Sunflower and Hybrid boxes. (FSC License No. C004309). Our most popular packaging ranges are our recyclable products, such as our Poppy boxes, demonstrating just how important this matter has become to people in recent years. If you are still using plastic products, we'd like you to consider making the switch to sustainable products for the better of our planet, and we guarantee your customers will love it too!    National Children's Gardening Week (May 28-June 5)   During the 'warm week' in May, children around the country are encouraged to get outside and learn to look after their gardens. It can be as simple as planting a few flowers for the bees to pollinate, or even growing their own vegetables. As this is typically a warm and sunny period in the UK, results can be seen almost instantly, so the kids shouldn't have to wait long to see their hard work come to fruition!  It's vital to inspire the next generation to be mindful of their green spaces and encourage them to take an active role in the preservation of our wildlife in order to ensure the longevity of our planet, and help reduce the carbon emissions harming our environment. Though it's aimed at children, people of all ages are encouraged to get involved, as there's no bad time to start making a difference!  These are just a handful of dates to be mindful of for the next month, however, there are plenty more to keep an eye on throughout the rest of the year made to inspire people to think more consciously about both the positive and negative impacts we all have on our world every day.  If you’d like to find out more about any of the above ranges, or any of our other packaging ranges, our team are always on hand to help. We can answer any questions and advise on digital and hot foil printing and delivery times. To speak to a team member, call us now on 01792 473 785 or fill in our online contact form, and someone will get back to you shortly.

Our Commitment to Using FSC® Certified Products
We’d like to welcome you all to 2022, and thank you for helping us through 2021! It was a difficult year for all involved, and we couldn’t have done it without each other’s support.   This year, here at Packaging World, our team is committed to transitioning most, if not all, of our ranges to FSC® Certified products. The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) is a not-for-profit organisation that exists to promote responsible forestry, and they only certify forests that meet the highest environmental and social standards.   Products made with wood and paper from FSC® certified forests are all marked with the ‘tick tree’ logo so that suppliers and customers can be sure they’re using and buying items that aren’t harming the world’s forests.   In 2021, we were delighted to launch two new ranges made with FSC® Certified paper; our Sunflower and Hybrid box ranges, which are proving to be very popular with our customers.   Our Sunflower range is a selection of 100% fully recyclable boxes that come in various sizes, from those perfect for small earrings to those that can hold large pendant necklaces. They are currently available in black, grey, kraft, and white to meet the needs and preferences of all of our customers.   Our Hybrid box range is made from 70% mixed paper from FSC® Certified forests, and they come flat-packed for easy delivery and storage. They’re ready to assemble with self-adhesive pads in the corners of the boxes, so all they need is to be popped open and stuck in place. The box measures 200mm x 200mm x 100mm and is very sturdy, so it’s suitable for housing a range of different things. Just like our Sunflower range, they’re available in black, white, kraft, and grey colours.   As well as these two collections, we have started working to replace our existing Poppy range with FSC® Certified versions. We’re using only the highest quality FSC® certified materials to ensure that our customers won’t notice any difference in quality, and the only difference will be in the sustainability of the materials themselves and a lesser impact on the world around us. The boxes will be identical in every way, but they will have the all-important FSC® logo on the base, confirming the paper comes from Forest Stewardship Council® approved forests.   We’re committed to working hard this year to transition as many of our ranges over to using FSC® Certified paper as we possibly can. In 2022, we hope to shift most of our existing products over with no change in quality. We also aim to launch even more new ranges under the FSC® name, all at great, competitive prices and with the same high-quality that our customers have come to expect from Packaging World.   If you want to learn more about our range of Forest Stewardship Council® certified products, our team would be delighted to help you. Get in touch now by calling 01792 473 785 or fill in our online contact form, and someone will contact you to answer all of your questions.
